Deep Under
Acrylic and oil on canvas, 81.28 × 91.44 cm., 2024.

A few words
This painting explores materiality through the use of texture to create form, energy and movement. Leaf-like blue shapes gather around two larger forms at its centre, evoking the wild, unfamiliar life that exists deep beneath the sea.
The work continues my exploration of the earthquake as a metaphor for creativity: a point of rupture and transformation from which ideas, feelings and thoughts emerge. Like seismic activity taking place far below the surface, the creative process begins in an unseen realm before its energy rises and assumes a visible form.
