Seedlings

Seedlings began with a drawing of a small plant in my home, which informed the painting’s composition. Even after completing the drawing, I remained drawn to its forms and chose to explore them further through paint. It interests me that the image of a small plant gradually evolved into something resembling a landscape, blood and vulvas, as others have pointed out to me.

These associations were not conscious choices. The painting revealed itself through the process of making it: a single drip of red paint might spark an excitement that compelled me to push the imagery further, allowing the work to grow into something entirely different from the plant with which it began.

In this sense, the title Seedlings carries more than one meaning. It refers both to the plant-like imagery and to the seed of an idea or creative act—something newly formed whose future remains unknown and mysterious.
